FEELING GOOD IN YOUR OWN SKIN
I like to think that for the most part I am a confident girl and have been pretty much that way all my life. The thing is, time and experience are really the only things that can dictate that. As I have gotten older and I look back, I realize that confidence and a good sense of self comes with conquering fears, getting through difficult times, and going through break ups and persevering. It’s experiencing defeats, breaking through obstacles, working hard, accomplishing things you never thought you could and having shining moments of glory. In each one of these moments good or bad, you build yourself up. You build a thicker skin, resilience, a pride and a better understanding of life and it’s realities. You realize that having a positive attitude plays a crucial role in how you experience life. With age and maturity, you don’t sweat the small stuff, you learn to compete only with the person you were yesterday and you are fully aware of your faults and still accept them. After all, everyone has them!
Watching this strong person emerge over time, you begin to trust yourself and your decisions more. Am I hard on myself? HELL YES! I think everyone of us wants to be “the best”. Now, I just want to be the best damn me I can be! Do I put a lot of pressure on myself to stay in shape? HELL YES! I will say that I am amazed at what the body can do if you give it some love, a little nurturing, and good healthy food. Focusing on the things you do love about your body makes a huge difference, but I know it’s easier said then done (As I curse the mirror and wonder who do those thighs belong to? Ha). As comfortable as I am, I’d still like my super fast metabolism and my 20- year- old tight ass back that I didn’t have to work half as hard for! Ha 😛
One thing I do know for sure is I worked really hard to become the woman I am today. I am very in tune with who I am. I know what brings me joy and I know what gives me a sense of purpose. I’m strong, independent and I’d rather stand alone than be around people who don’t support my dreams. Did that come with time? Yes. It came with having to do things on my own and somehow always managing to land on my own two feet.
Don’t ever feel discouraged if you are not there yet, we all have things that “test us” and our strength. We all have our moments where we doubt ourselves, critique ourselves and compare ourselves to the “perfect” and unattainable images in magazines. During that time, when you are feeling low, might I suggest staying away from social media and magazines! Aha Like I said, we all have our weak moments.
The one thing I will leave you with, is this… There will never be another you, so be the best damn version of you and feel good about that skin your in! 🙂
